Laughter on the Breeze
Tracks
1. Dangerous Lives
I’ll meet you down at the monkey bars
See if we both can’t swing like carnival stars
My mind’s made up, I’m leavin’ home
The circus needs somebody who’s ready to roam
But I get to the second corner
And I think of all the things I’m gonna miss
I can’t seem to get much further
Before I’m headin’ back to give my momma
One more kiss
Just one more kiss
I’ll walk the wire, you juggle knives
They always said we’re headin’ for dangerous lives
My mind’s made up, I’m leavin’ home
The circus needs somebody who’s ready to roam
But I get to the second corner
And I think of all the things I’m gonna miss
I can’t seem to get much further
Before I’m headin’ back to give my momma
One more kiss
Just one more kiss
2. A Herd of Ukeleles
It’s a herd of wildebeest
And a pride of lions
It’s a band of criminals
And a fleet of ships
Some of you ask and so you should
“And if the thing is made of wood?
Yes, especially if it comes with strings
How are we meant to name these things?”
A herd of ukuleles?
A flock of ukuleles?
It’s a belt of asteroids
And a plague of locusts
It’s a touch of flatulence
And a flock of sheep
Some of you ask and so you should
“And if the thing is made of wood?
Yes, especially if it comes with strings
How are we meant to name these things?”
A herd of ukuleles?
A flock of ukuleles?
A troop of ukuleles?
3. King of Sound
Little cicada
The king of sound
You must be chuffed to finally be up above the ground
Now that you’re up here
And the days are long
Well, you can fill the air with your extraordinary song
Is it all folklore?
Or do you keep on singing till you can sing no more?
Little cicada
High in a tree
Shed your skin and leave behind a souvenir for me
I know your tricks now
When you hear me come
You stop until you think I’ve gone and then you start to hum
And your call is strong
Do you sing so loud because you cannot sing so long?
King of sound, tell us a story
Tell us what it’s like to be you
4. Jaws, Paws, Claws, Roar
If a lion wants to eat
It has to be fast upon its feet
Jaws, paws, claws, roars
Help the lion’s cause
Mum’s a hunter through and through
What then does the daddy do?
Jaws, paws, claws, roars
Help the lion’s cause
Big and quick and lean and strong
You won’t catch me here for long
Jaws, paws, claws, roars
Help the lion’s cause
5. E is for Elephant
E is for Elephant, as everybody expects
The fellow with the nose down to his toes
Deserves a little respect
And E is for Elephant, so they say in the schools
The fellow with the tread softer than bread
Deserves to make all the rules
E for explanations, E for exercise
E for Easter eggs and E for eagle eyes
E for everybody needs their lullabies
T for tusk and trunk and tail and ...
E is for Elephant, as everybody expects
The fellow with the nose down to his toes
Deserves a little respect
A little respect, just a little respect
6. Laughter on the Breeze
In my garden stands a nine-inch gnome
I’m so glad he calls my garden home
I’ve seen him blinking
I’ve heard him sneeze
Sometimes I catch laughter on the breeze
If I ever got to talk with him
I would offer to give his beard a trim
I’ve seen him bending
To scratch his knees
Sometimes I catch laughter on the breeze
I walk upright, but I’m not always right
I hear shuffling part way through the night
I’ve seen him flailing
To swat the bees
Sometimes I catch laughter on the breeze
7. Stummer Cake
I had a chocolate cake
I had a lemon cake
I had an orange cake
I had a marble cake
I had a Russian cake
I had an almond cake
And last but not least
I had a stummer cake
I had a carrot cake
I had a honey cake
I had a coffee cake
I had a ginger cake
I had a Christmas cake
I had a custard cake
And last but not least
I had a stummer cake
8. Karen Dash
Karen Dash
And her amazing pencil stash
She's got another thirty hidden under her Just in case mattress
She should lose her pencil case
In her collection
All those pencils point in one direction
She’s the only kid in school who thinks that pencils are beautiful
And she’ll never let you say - “It’s just a writing tool”
Karen Dash
And her amazing pencil stash
She’s got another thirty hidden under her mattress
Just in case
She should lose her pencil case
It’s her collection
Every day she strokes them with affection
She’s the only kid in school who thinks that pencils are beautiful
And she’ll never let you say - “It’s just a writing tool”
Thirty hidden under her mattress
Karen Dash!
9. Bad Teddies
I purchased them down at the beach
They cost me a cool dollar each
I gave them the names Bill and Sam
But later I changed one to Pam
We lived in such harmony then
Strolling through forest and glen
I didn’t suspect them at all
For they were so cute and so small
Ah poor me
How was I to know of their curse?
Blaming me
When money went missing from mommy’s purse
They acted like nothing was wrong
They’d whistle their teddy bear song
But I knew when things were afoot
When things were not where they’d been put
There’s not a lot more to report
Those two little teddies were caught
And sent where bad teddies must go
It took me a while to get over though
chorus
10. Questions for the Queen
I have a few questions for the queen
I think you know exactly what I mean
First and foremost
How big is her bed?
And does she take off her crown
To lay down her head
On her pillow?
Does she have a feeling for the land?
And does she know her life is very grand?
Oh and I wonder
How big is her bed?
And does she take off her crown
To lay down her head
On her pillow?
SOLO
… on her pillow
11. Tall Shadow
Tall Shadow, striding though the meadows of tomorrow
Tall Shadow, helping out a child or a widow
No one’s ever seen him
So they only half believe he’s really there
He just tends to breeze in
Then he’s gone again before you’re quite aware
Tall Shadow, sleeping with the heather as his pillow
Tall Shadow, he would never dress in pink or yellow
No one’s ever seen him
So they only half believe he’s really there
He just tends to breeze in
Then he’s gone again before you’re quite aware
Tall Shadow, striding though the meadows of tomorrow
Tall Shadow, helping out a child or a widow
12. Little White Cross
Little white cross in the air
Who knows why and who knows where
You are destined to be
That’s the question you pose to me
Back to Kazakhstan
Or the rolling hills of Spain
Oh little white cross, I’m wondering again
Little white cross in the blue
I admire your confidence too
Knowing just where to go
Can you see us folks down below?
On the Norfolk Broads
In the mountains of Peru
Oh little white cross, I’ve got my eye on you
You hang in the sky and I follow you
I could be a bird looking down on you
Repeat verse 1
13. Octoperson
People are keen for me to lend a hand
Being the leader of the ... the marching band
Of the marching band
Oh, of the marching band
Yes and I try to be as normal as I can
But still be an octopus
I go to parties and the guests are aghast
There is confusion when the ... the parcel’s passed
When the parcel’s passed
Oh, when the parcel’s passed
Yes and I try to be as normal as I can
But still be an octopus
14. Lullaby
Lullaby, warm and dry
Go to sleep my baby
When the morning comes
And the world it hums
You’ll be wide-awake and maybe
You might learn something new
Or you won’t have a clue
But the sun will always come up in the end
