Julia Mapusua

Julia Mapusua is a Polynesian of Samoan descent, Spatial Designer and Artist from South Auckland, New Zealand. She completed her Bachelor of Design and Master of Design with Honours (First Class) at Auckland University Technology. Her Masters project A State of Reimagining: Reconnection and Belonging through Mark Making is the origin and inspiration of her style of work. This project, awarded with Bronze for Best Awards student spatial category and exhibited through fifteen lightboxes during Auckland Artsweek 2021.

Mapusua is interested in the way design elements can inform and integrate our understanding of cultural landscapes and social contexts together. Through a process of selecting icons and collaging them in exaggerated effect, the designer has created a unique style of collaging that richly articulates the designer's creativity and storytelling.
