I don't know why, but I love going to the beach when it rains, it's cloudy and foggy. It feels kind of alien and ominous. I wanted to try and paint this atmosphere and ambiance reverberating through the vast distances and giant structures on the coasts of Piha. A black sand beach west of Auckland. The blow up giant sharks are there to break the dull seriousness of whole theme and make it a bit more grotesque and comical.
